COCSD highlighted in the BUS 52 Project
What is Bus 52? Bus 52 is a year-long journey across the United States that will see four young people travel to all 48 continental states in a converted school bus. We will be looking for people who are approaching community challenges in innovative ways and will tell their story through video interviews, articles, and photo albums.

Cottonwood-Oak Creek preschool

Our Preschool Committee is moving forward. Applications for Quality First through First Things First initiative have all been submitted. These applications include; Oak Creek School’s preschool, DDB’s Special Needs preschool and our new Bright Bears Preschool Academy. We are currently working on a Bright Bears Fact Sheet for distribution and a grant for enhancing all our programs within the district. Families can register their children for Oak Creek’s Preschool by calling 639-5109 or Bright Bears Preschool Academy 634-7039.
Preschool ChildFindThe Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District offers free developmental screenings for preschool children between the ages of 3 to 5 years who live in the school district and are not already receiving special education services or enrolled in Kindergarten. The screenings are typically held on a monthly basis. The screenings will check a child's speech, motor, cognitive, adaptive, and social development. The next Preschool ChildFind is Wednesday, August 22 8:30-12:30. For an appointment call 634-2288. Arizona Early Intervention program also offers developmental screenings for children age birth to three years.

DDB, CES, CMS, and OC are all AdvanceEd Accredited. Accreditation is a voluntary method of quality assurance developed more than 100 years ago by American universities and secondary schools. Accreditation examines the whole institution—the programs, the cultural context, the community of stakeholders— to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of students.
AdvancEd plans provide the structure to help assure that the disruption of changes are implemented in a systematic and controlled manner and aligned to the district’s and schools’ visions of preparing students for the 21st century. We are ready!
